WEAVING THE CONNECTION

Image
The city of Portsmouth has a rich history and had layers of interaction and connections between people of various backgrounds during the exchange of the trade at the port . People from different places came with the motive of buying or exchanging the product they desire to have. Though they came from different communities but they had one intention of buying and selling the product which became their connection point and resulted in layers of interaction. It similar to the contrasting layers of interactions happening in the repair café.  Repair café is made by people for  improving the lifestyle of people and the city.  People from different sectors of community gather at repair cafés for free to mend items together resulting in layers of interactions. The repair work involves intertwining of humans and materials that are being repaired and the tools that would be used to repair them. All the interactions are intertwined in some or the other way as they are taking place i...

Recycle , Upcycle and Repurpose

Image
When someone sees the value in a discard item, it not only receives a new lease on life but also sees a positive change in its aesthetic value. In addition to being good for the environment, upcycling and repurposing materials allows for new design possibilities and challenges preconceived ideas about the profession of design. Value of things and materials is frequently determined by their overall cost, however some artists dispute this idea and have been producing artwork using recycled materials, giving life to new forms of designing. Recycle, upcycle, and repurpose: Recycle: Recycling is the process of dismantling materials and utilising them once again as opposed to allowing them to end up in landfills. In most cases, recycled objects are completely remade and have a longer lifespan than they would have otherwise. Upcycle: To alter or redesign a product's appearance is known as upcycling. Many things have sturdy structures, yet all they need are minor design, operational, or co...

The Textile art world

Image
Textile art is one of the many story-telling techniques that have been employed throughout history. This industry is growing, and each day, new textile art masterpieces with lovely concepts and designs appear. The adaptability and durability of fabrics have created new opportunities for design, scale, drama, and effect.  There are many artists that create textile installations, and each of their works has a unique story to tell, drawing on political, social, and personal themes. The installations are made via weaving, sewing, rolling, twisting, dying, folding, patchwork, and other similar techniques. Many of them use waste materials to raise awareness of environmental degradation and climate change. Reusing materials and artefacts from the trash to make art involves changing people's preconceived ideas about art and art forms as well as discovering new possibilities. These are the select few artists whose works have truly moved me.   Hyacinthe Ouattara:  Visual artist Hya...

The Element of Contrast

Image
The Contrasting elements are among the fundamental ideas of art. It is a compositional component that helps to achieve the desired result. It is recognised as the golden rule in the world of fine art. The opposing element can draw attention to a specific, important aspect of the artwork while underlining the idea the creator wants viewers to focus on when viewing the work. When applied skilfully, it has a significant influence. Various techniques, such as differences in colours, textures, shapes, and forms, can be used to create a striking difference between two elements. Indicating where one item ends and another begins, the contrast between the two things delineates their separation. COLOR CONTRAST : Every artist uses colour contrast in at least one of their creations. An effective contrast can be achieved in a variety of ways. Hue contrast - The ability to discriminate between the tones of two different colours is measured by hue contrast. The colours on opposite sides of a colour w...

The Surreal Assemblages

Image
Everything in the world has a nonlinear influence on everything else, culminating in the building of layers of an unsolvable complicated system. Every material has the ability to tell a tale, and when they join together, a different story is told just because of their proximity. The world is made of surreal assemblages that result as a result of interactions and intractions of human and innate materials. Humans frequently overlook the ability of materials to cause events to occur in certain ways. Whatever exists in the world is the result of interactions between human and nonhuman things, the power of which is frequently overlooked. Materials are involved and have a role in shaping us and the planet. The material environment can elicit new possibilities, and if we wish to investigate material capability, we must accept the object's existence without imposing the subjectivity of human experience. To effect significant change in the global working style, we must look beyond the ratio...

The Art of Assemblage

Image
“ Best from the waste” or “Trash to Treasure” are few of the activities which everyone has definitely done when we were in school . When I heard about the activity that we had to do in EPC workshop , I got nostalgic and all I could thing was about the fun I had when I did these kind of activities. I was curious to do it as it would definitely lead to understanding of the concepts which I never thought while I did it initially . We had to collect different type of discarded materials from our household ,road side or a charity shop. It was interesting to find the materials as we are generally ignorant towards most of them but now we had to observe and select them which we think has a potential to be reused . I selected a piece of colored sheet which I painted during the coloring workshop , few safety pins, and a shell from my household for the workshop. At the workshop , we started the exercise by discussing about different methods of joining and attaching the materials . It was exciti...

ALL ABOUT HUES..

Image
What could be more amazing than a day where you get to work with different hues of the colors ? When I heard about the studio activity specially revolving around the colors I was not only enthusiastic but also curious about the studio that was going to be held . Preparation : For the studio we had to flat paint two A1 size sheets , one with a color similar to a object we have and another with any color of our choice. We had to make the particular color by mixing different shades which in itself was a difficult task. I chose my favorite wallet for the task which is in shade of yellow . It was a tedious yet fun task to mix   yellow , white and red to get the color similar to the wallet . The other color I selected was coral red. I decided to color both the sheets with different types of brushes to understand the difference of texture of the painted surface . The sheet painted in yellow color had more visible brush strokes than the one I painted with sponge brush. I spent almost ...
