ALL ABOUT HUES..

What could be more amazing than a day where you get to work with different hues of the colors ? When I heard about the studio activity specially revolving around the colors I was not only enthusiastic but also curious about the studio that was going to be held .

Preparation :

For the studio we had to flat paint two A1 size sheets , one with a color similar to a object we have and another with any color of our choice. We had to make the particular color by mixing different shades which in itself was a difficult task. I chose my favorite wallet for the task which is in shade of yellow . It was a tedious yet fun task to mix  yellow , white and red to get the color similar to the wallet . The other color I selected was coral red. I decided to color both the sheets with different types of brushes to understand the difference of texture of the painted surface . The sheet painted in yellow color had more visible brush strokes than the one I painted with sponge brush. I spent almost 2 and half hour to complete the task.

The Studio Task :

Everyone had beautifully painted sheets in the studio . Each person had selected unique colors and it was quite interesting to know how they got the exact color of the object they chose. To quote Jane Bennet "Stuff commanded attention on its own and produces effects within us ". All the people chose unique objects as if the object commanded the attention and we were giving it that attention as the whole activity was going to be revolved with color of that particular object.

The first task revolved around arranging the colored sheets according to the shades. Few students arranged it by following the “VIBGYOR” pattern. The main objective behind task was to analyze how the relationship between the colors changes when it is placed beside different shades . We had to make arrangements of colored sheets which is pleasing to one’s eye by creating a pattern through arranging it in different size and forms .

Performance of colors through the space:

The space perception can be influenced by the colors and this task was all about that. The painted sheets were divided in parts and were distributed among all the students. All the students were divide in 3 groups with 12 people in each team. Every group got a particular area in studio where we had to make an arrangement of those sheets according to a concept and use any surface area may it be walls , floor or roof to justify the concept.

What is more beautiful than the hues of sky during sunrise and sunset? This is what we all could think of when we saw the beautifully painted sheets . Thus we decided to make a big wall hanging arrangement where we placed colors according to the sunset sky and used monochromatic shades at the bottom to denote the manmade structures. The gist and enthusiasm with which everyone was working was adding up to the charm of the activity.

Color journey through different forms and space :

We worked on full sheets and then by cutting it in three frames. As the form and size of the sheets were changing there effects on the space and the visual experience was also getting changed . The third activity revolved around how the colors could create a spacial engagement by creating movement from creative space to the studio space. We had conceptualize an arrangement where the objects placed in the studio , external factors visible through the window and the colored arrangement seems like flowing in a moment.

The window of the studio became our canvas were we pasted submarine and boats along with a plane and used skyline as a backdrop for it . We created sunrays using strips of colors and scotch tape and joined it to the table .The table was then connected to arrangements of chairs in different distorted order still creating different pattern with it. Books and bookshelf was also made using the same strips to create illusion of a shelf .

Statement through bits and pieces :

The final activity was about making a statement by using a bit of color. It was about how a smallest form of color can have a great impact. We made a symbolic representation of peace and go green using green color where the window blinds acted as our canvas. As the blinds were white in color , the green symbol was highlighted and had immediate effect and was making an impact on the viewer .

By end of the day I realized how beautiful the journey of these colored sheets painted by us was. Right from the selection of particular color to making it from different shades of colors and the beautiful arrangements which were made by transforming it’s from and shape again and again leading it to make the largest impact even when used in smallest form. Colors speak to us . In all the forms, shapes and sizes it has different impact on not only the visual experience but also the spacial relationship with all the things around it.
